Regular price $9,999.00
:: A striking antique Farahan Sarouk rug, most likely woven in the late 19th century, showcasing a bold and graphic design typical of the Farahan region prior to heavy commercialization. The rug features an intricate central medallion with ivory spandrels and a green center, set against a madder root rust tomato toned field adorned with stylized floral sprays, angular vinery, and architectural urns. The spacious layout is asymmetric in places, adding a lively, almost folkloric character. Distinctive lion and deer figures, along with perched birds and a variety of boteh forms, suggest a fusion of rural storytelling with Persian classical motifs. The deep indigo border is densely packed with rosettes, serrated leaves, and palmettes, framing the composition with gravitas. Note the elaborate and colorful birds as well as the sprung speckled fawn! Some abrash throughout the field, adding richness to the earthy palette. Overall, this is a rare and collectible example of transitional Farahan-Sarouk weaving, retaining its artistic integrity and deeply saturated vegetable dyes. Colors and shades include: Madder root red, dusty cochineal, navy blue, sapphire blue, jade green, pale saffron yellow, lime green, coffee brown, beige, sand, blush and more. Condition notes: Mostly even wear across to knot heads with small isolated areas of foundation showing through. Most of the original side cord selvages are intact or restored. Fully secured sides and ends. Subtle small signs of old moth activity. Recently professionally cleaned ready for in-home use! Many years of enjoyment to come with this hand knotted Persian Farahan Sarouk rug made in Persia circa 1910's vintage. Size measures 4'4" x 6'5".
